For some strange reason, the black coffee I drank today energized me more than I expected, and I used that energy to finish off some urgent tasks at work. I love this!
With that, let me share three songs that are just as hyper as I am today.
Stone Sour’s “Absolute Zero”
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I discovered it from a Batman-themed playlist on Spotify years back, and honestly, that was my proper introduction to Corey Taylor’s hard rock band. I never looked back since.
The aggressive sound and the unpretentious lyrics get me pumped every time I hear it. But for me, what really slaps is the chorus’s last line:
I’m not the devil, but I won’t be your hero.
Fall Out Boy’s “Beat It” (Michael Jackson Cover)
For me, as much as I love the original version by the late, legendary Michael Jackson, Fall Out Boy’s version sounds punchier and more aggressive. Sorry, MJ. I love this cover so much that I may have played it more than any of the pop-punk band’s original songs.
(I also love FOB, by the way. I listened to them often during the first year of college.)
Coheed and Cambria’s “Gravemakers & Gunslingers
This is one of my favorite fast-paced rock songs from one of my all-time favorite bands. Just like Them Crooked Vultures’ “Mind Eraser, No Chaser” (a song I’ve mentioned before), I always listen to it when I need to move fast, whether that’s running in a park or commuting in Metro Manila.
I also love the fact that it came from Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow, the only album from the progressive rock band to feature the late, great Taylor Hawkins on recording drums. That’s the closest thing to a Foo Fighters/Coheed and Cambria supergroup, which is awesome. (Should I call it Fooheed?)
